[FCP-L] Snow leopard warning

If you have been living in your edit bay without access to the web the
past week and are running Snow Leopard...... Here is a warning worth
taking note of.

http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/snow_leopard_guest_account_wiping_some_home_directories/

http://www.macnn.com/articles/09/10/12/guest.login.could.delete.data.permanently/

ttp://www.tuaw.com/2009/10/12/bug-tracker-snow-leopard-guest-account-deleting-files/

Sometimes to solve permissions or preferences issues, it has been
recommending to set up another guest or user account. If you are
running Snow leopard I think this would open up a whole world of hurt
on your home directories.

Re: [FCP-L] Re: Autosave file error

Our IT guys that handle the EditSan have written a permissions script
that runs every hour. From my understanding it checks the permissions
of the file and makes sure individual system permissions do not
conflict with EditSan Group permissions when the file is created. It
seems to keep the saving issues at bay, but it comes back every few
weeks. Recently we upgraded two suites to Leopard, while 3 others are
still on Tiger. Even with the script, the file issues do come back.
Our quest continues to solve this issue continues.

Re: [FCP-L] Re: Autosave file error

No, it seems to be connected to saving project files (actual or
autosave vault) in a network or shared storage configuration.
We have editors always save locally but make backup copies on the
Terrablock. I have seen this XSAN, Terrablock and Unity.

We use EditShare and on some afternoons we get the same error
message. We save to the desktop instead of saving the project file to
Editshare. Restart the local edit machine, copy the project file back
to EditShare and all returns to normal. It is a bummer, and have
talked to ES about it, but they didn't have a solution.

We put the autosaves on the local machine and they don't have
problems, only the 'real' project file that is on the server. The
suggestions I have researched about this haven't led to a solution,
so this problem continues for us.

Re: [FCP-L] Raid Died - Reconstruct Sequences

i cant really address the long file-name issue,
but i agree that the Media Managed file names are ilogical.

the worst thing is that when you have multiple instances of a clip in
the timeline,
the Media Managed file names and clip names don't match.

i just bothered to check this with a small test.
1st is clip name, 2nd is file name:

"Clip 01" = "Clip 01"
"Clip 01 1" = "Clip 01-2"
"Clip 01 2" = "Clip 01-3"

notice that the second is labeled as 2 in the FILE name,
and that the third clip gets labeled as 2 in the CLIP name.

notice also a space in the clip name is a dash in the file name

in the past i've seen the second instance get labeled "clip v" in the
file name.
which creates more confusion.

in a system that relies on correspondence between clip name and file
name for connection,
this is almost criminal.

as of FCP6, there is a solution via the Modify > Rename functions:
rename clip name to match file name
or vice - versa

Re: [FCP-L] Raid Died - Reconstruct Sequences

So, i'm awake now (barely)
I'm with Nick, it is possible to media manage offline sequences.
But what i would like to know (for the FCP reconnect program), is there
anyway to predict what the actual filename of the media is going to be?
It seems that FCP truncates the batch list name to 'something' of 30 chars,
without any logic (at least not my logic...)
