Re: [FCP-L] FCP 6 Exam.

That depends on the actual question i.e. which tool or function is
pertained to!

Re: [FCP-L] .dss unix video file format?

Hi David,

The Olympus player is for Digital Speech Standard (DSS).

The files I have are a .dss Unix video format (from AverMedia
surveillance cameras). They are 100's of MBytes in size.

Thanks though,

James

Olympus has a Mac DSS file player and converter that converts to aiff.
It is used for their digital recorders and I have it. If you have a
small (emailable) file that you would like me to try for you you can
send it to me off list of course.

Re: [FCP-L] .dss unix video file format?

Finally figured out that the .dss files come from an AverMedia
surveillance device. I was able to get dss2avi to transcode it. But
the only output codec for that app is Indeo 5.1. Fortunately this
still works on Windows XP. And the result plays in Windows Media
Player (which has not way of exporting to a useable codec for FCP).
But no other app I have found so far (like ConvertAVItoMP4) is able to
deal with the resulting AVI files. It might be a proprietary version
of Indeo that is the problem. I may never know.

If anyone can think of an app on Windows that might work here let me
know. Premiere works on Windows, but I am not going to purchase
Premiere for Windows.

For all of Quicktime's issues we could be in a lot worse shape.

Thanks much, James

Hello evryone,
For who ever took FCP 6 test exam for certification, there was a question about AB roll that I didn't do good in it, I just want to know what Topic I need to review for that question, please advice.

No, not possible in either FCP 6 or 7 (FCP 7 has exactly the same
number of audio outputs as FCP 6 Bouke)

[FCP-L] Re: OT: Firewire Jitter on Flatscreens, or SD-HD Issue?

Jeff,

I'm not sure of precisely why there is an issue, but you are asking the HD flat panel to do conversions that create the worst possible results. The image is going through A-D conversion, deinterlacing, line interpolation, noise reduction, sharpening and scaling. None of this happens in a CRT or your on-screen GUI on the computer monitor. The quality is a direct result of the internal electronics of the particular flat panel you are using and its native resolution. Does the flat panel have a 1:1 pixel mode? If so, how does it look? Do you have the ability to do an external conversion to compare? Do you have other monitors (like a high-quality LCD or plasma) to compare?

[FCP-L] OT: Firewire Jitter on Flatscreens, or SD-HD Issue?

Goofy. I've run into an image stabilization issue on two different
systems playing SD into different consumer HD flatscreens as program
monitors.

Playback from FCP (6.06 and 7.0) is through Firewire from different
computers through different Sony DVcam decks, then analog out to
different TVs via composite or s-video. Problem is the image on the
screen jitters - one system shudders the entire image randomly every
2-3 seconds, and the other system displays tearing at the top at the
same general rhythm.

Anybody know a reason why firewire might be unstable through E-E loop
from SD playback into HD flatscreens, on two entirely different
systems? No sync lines exist, or should be needed. Or why the SD-HD
conversion might be to blame (signal converted in TVs; image displayed
on computer screens shows no instability). This path works just fine
into CRTs, both pro and consumer. Goofy.

Jay,
No idea about SDI embedded TC,
but if you have an audio channel to spare, perhaps this will help.

(Fcp 7 should have more audio outputs, perhaps a reason to upgrade)
