I'm in for two bobbleheads. Bob is one of the few things I actually
miss about Orlando/Florida.

The FSI guys came from TV Logic. They use the same panels and the same technology at a lower price.

Re: [FCP-L] OT: Bob Zelin, The Rock Star

here is what's printed. and you know, print doesn't lie.

"COW leaders Chris Poisson and Bob Zelin detoured through music: Chris
created memorable album covers for Santana and The Mahavishnu
Orchestra, and Bob interrupted his career in broadcast engineering to
play keyboards on the historically epic "kiss Alive" tour in 1977."

Bob, it looks like all that acid from the 70's may have fogged up you
memories.. go watch Kiss and the Phantom of the Park a few times,
maybe Dazed and Confused, (the movie, not physically) and maybe a bit
of Almost Famous. it'll come back to you..

so we have 2 for the bobblehead order already, 248 to go.

:-)

Well if you can find 251 other FCP-L/Avid-L2/Cow members to sign up to buy
one, you can get custom bobblehead dolls made for about $10/each

One of many online outlets

Maybe you'd need Zelin's approval. Maybe not...

Re: [FCP-L] OT: Bob Zelin, The Rock Star

I was never a keyboard player for kiss, and this is absolutely nonsense.
I was a tour technician for Tasco Sound, which was the sound reinforcement company for Kiss on the 1977 tour.
This was my first job in our industry, and it is where I learned to make audio cables, and take abuse. I split one salary with my
friend of $250 a week, and after taxes, I came home with $90. Kiss rehearsals were in Newburgh, NY at Stewart Airport, and belive me,
it was not glamourous.

Re: [FCP-L] Broadcast Monitor

This is really true. Being used to the monitors that "most of us" have
access to - Sony, Panasonic and JVC (and the JVC is very good),
you go to a trade show and see TV Logic, CineTal, and eCinema, and go "well,
they may be nice, but I don't have that kind of money".
Then you see the FSI, and its the same money as the Panasonic, JVC, etc. and
its DRAMATICALLY better.

Re: [FCP-L] Semi-OT: Squeeze v. Episode

I forgot. The main reason we bought Episode at the time was that it
would do high bit rate MPEG2 encodes for delivery through DGFastChannel.

So I can set it up to encode their preset, a Quicktime and a wmv at
the same time and walk away. It also does very nice DVD encodes which
I use from time to time when Apple breaks DVD Studio Pro or when I
need to squeeze the most space for the highest bit rate.

Re: [FCP-L] Semi-OT: Squeeze v. Episode

We are running Episode Pro 5.3 (yes ut was ~$1K). It shines most with FLV,
AVI and WMV. It has a LOT of presets to get you started and they all work
very well with a lot of tweakability if you need to fine tune.

It is somewhat of an unfair comparison though, since I have not played with
Squeeze since I got Episode and Squeeze may have improved.

David - where does Episode really shine? Anything that is "kick-ass, I can't
live without it"?

Re: [FCP-L] Semi-OT: Squeeze v. Episode

I have to ask; which version of Episode are you guys comparing Squeeze with?
We have numerous Squeeze installations but we are quite dissatisfied with
the stability issues and problems in general.
Are you using the $990 Episode with watchfolders over network for example?
That would be great...

Re: [FCP-L] Semi-OT: Squeeze v. Episode

I don't know Squeeze, but I can vouch for the speed, quality, and
variety of formats that I get from Episode.

It's my app of choice for conversions.

Re: [FCP-L] Broadcast Monitor

I bought the FSI 2450W a couple of months ago and love it. I've had it
side by side with the 17" Panys on a couple of shoots and it blows
them out of the water. The scopes are much better and show more detail
than the Panasonics and along with waveform and vector also include
RGB parade and column views plus VUs for 16 channels of audio and TC
display. Some people here have said that monitor scopes are no better
than the software scopes but something to consider is that they are
measuring the final output of the video card.
