Using Alpha Transitions

[FCP-L] Re: Sharpening filter

> OK don't all rush at once... does anyone know if FCP7 has direct

In FCP, you can show most of Motion's effects by going to the
"Effects" menu, and opening the "Effects Availability" submenu, and
selecting "All Effects". You will then have the "Unsharp Mask" effect
from Motion available to you in the "Sharpen" category. (You can tell
it from FCP's Unsharp Mask because it will say "FxPlug" in the "Effect
Class" column.) I don't know if "Sharpen" is available or not in FCP
7. It doesn't look like it in FCP 6, and I don't have 7 in front of me
at the moment, but it may now be available.

Thanks Dick. I joined that forum. Co-incidentally the newest topic is
about DSLR video, foxes recorded using a Canon 7D :-)

Re: [FCP-L] A bit OT: consumer cam with night vision?

I didn't know about OnLocation yet, am now reading about it, thanks.

And I am currently making the move to DSLR videography, using a
Panasonic GH1. I made this move after Robin posted a Canon 5D clip in
this forum (thanks Robin!), and I hope to upgrade to Red one day.

With my camera, if you bump it down to 1440 x 1080 and a nasty 6mbs, you can get about 5 hours on a 8GB card. Put a 32GB in and he should be fine.

Will the camera need to be triggered by motion to record? Is a SD card big enough to hold a nights worth of Fox hole footage? This really sounds like fun stuff. I seem to remember Adobe's OnLocation has a firewire input and a recording option that can be triggered by motion in the frame. After you discover when the badgers and foxes come out will you be setting up a Red Camera for the real footage? Just kidding ;-)

Rick and Robin,

I definitely need a camcorder with built-in IR
light and short distance it's not a problem. It's
for planting near fox and badger holes and
trails, to register at what times they become
active, after that we will start using better
cameras with remote lights etc. Suggestions for a
dedicated wild life videography forum are welcome
by the way, I couldn't find any.

According to it's specs, no. Since that feature is called "Night-Shot"
of which there is no mention in it's specs. Merely: Minimum
Illumination, 5 Lux (1/30 Low Light Mode), 1 Lux (Magic Pix® Mode)
which I wouldn't say qualifies as "pitch black"

@Reini: you realize of course that nearly *ANY* DV-Cam will "Night-
Shoot", be it via a built-in or EXTRA IR-light? It a feature (or side-
effect?) of the CHIPS themselves, not the camera. And the built-in IR-
lights, from the few that I've used myself, won't in fact give you
enough light to shoot past roughly an arm's length anyway... something
you'll want to keep in mind depending on what you plan to shoot, i.e.
from what distance, since anything past roughly 10 ft. (if even)
you'll definitely need an extra light for.

There is a review. I don't know off hand, but I don't see anything mentioning it. I'll shoot something tonight when I get home and post it for you if you want.

For preparing wildlife videography production I need a cheap consumer
camcorder with built-in night vision. Some years ago this seemed to
be a standard function on most camcorders but newer models do not
always have it. Can someone recommend a current model, preferably
with (SD) memory card recording.
