[FCP-L] Canon SLR for Video?

Hi guys, first time writing here. I'm have been in video production for sometime now but have been out of the loop on the technology. I recently ran across a fellow using his SLR for video and was really impressed with the quality. I am wondering if I may get some direction from the more experienced folk here?

Currently I would like to upgrade my entire system, as I am getting older the 25lbs steadicam is getting to be a little too much with my old Canon XL2 (Completely loaded, matte box etc)

I still use the old PowerMac Dual 5G. I recently wanted to upgrade my FCP and was told I couldn't due to the Intel chip not present.

I would like to go in the direction of a decent SLR (I shoot mostly 24fps), if I can keep using my existing Mac at the present (at least for a little while), then that would help, if I have to upgrade then so be it.

Here is my questions:

- What is the best (reasonable) SLR to obtain for Video
- How do I store footage? Portable HD?
- Is there a complete shoulder rail system?
- What about audio? Would I need an external mixer? I do use Lavs
- Finally, what or can I use FCP to edit the video with whatever Codec is available with these new cameras?

My biggest worry is not being able to edit HDV on my current Mac setup.

Thank you in Advance
Aaron
