[FCP-L] Sanity check - XDCAM EX 24fps , error 12 & me

Hey folks.

I just wanted to float this and see if anyone recognizes it. The intertubes didn't reveal too much recently, though i found some similar stuff about 15 months ago.

I'm cutting a project on FCP 7, shot on XDCAM EX/24fps. At various times throughout the day, FCP will crash & the console will reveal hundreds to thousands of messages like this:

Final Cut Pro (xxx) malloc: ***mmap (size = 268439552) failed (error code=12)

This is NOT a big project by any means. Perhaps 80 hours of footage; I've only been working on it for a couple weeks. I have worked extensively on projects with many, many times more files and more clips, more bins, etc. All individual project files are under 40M.

Is anyone else seeing this type of error? If I monitor the console & reboot after seeing that dump, it's all good except that I reboot a couple of time more per day...and I don't like having to watch the console.

The other moving parts are an Aja Kona LHe; footage stored on MetaSAN (latest versions of all components), Mac OS X 10.5.8; 12gigs of RAM on an Mac Pro 2x2.26 Quad Core Xeon.

I've tried copying the media to a local RAID and still had the issue. Have also tried switching the sequence render codec from "Same as source" to ProRes.
