[FCP-L] Re: VITC Sucks

You would think so but that is not the case in my experience with several machines. On Avid with an A-500 digibeta you can choose at the machine control panel and the RS-422 time code follows. The SR-5500 doesn't behave the same way no matter what you choose on the TCR selection. Remember there are more TC options on a 5500. You can tell it to spit 30 frame code down the 422 instead of 24 frame when using the Frame Convert output to add pulldown (A-10 Time Code Sense). Perhaps this architecture is where the difference in functionality stems from. It's like the Avid control is forcing the Auto TCR setting regardless of how the machine is set. I haven't tried this sense 3.5x or later and I no longer have an SR-5500 in house to play with.

I only have FCP and in the device control settings I can choose between LTC, VITC, and LTC+VITC. I switch this to LTC and it ignores the VITC. Can't say for sure about Avid device controls but I'd be surprised if that weren't an option in there somewhere...

As far as I know the problem still exists when controlling an SR-5500 with RS-422 and the ltc and vitc don't match there is no way with Avid control to force the record machine to read ltc only down the RS-422. This makes it impossible to make edits. Digibeta decks would follow the switch setting ltc, vitc or auto. For $100,000 plus why should the SR-5500 have this functionality or is it the Avid protocol? Can't remember if the same problem exists with FCP control. Anybody know?
