I am planning on getting a talking seeing eye dog to assist me with viewing the monitors.
With that said, you could get a 42" Plasma screen (like a Panasonic TH42PD12UK for $839), and keep the resolution at 1280x768. Now THIS will be big !

Oh I've got glasses... now. Transition Lenses Bi Focals. ( I was waiting for the glasses suggestion) The problem is that glasses don't work with the distances I sit from the monitors at either my client's suites or at home. Don't really need them for stuff that's a few feet away. It just seems that bigger would be better for an editing monitor at home then I though perhaps two would be better. The weak link right now is the 15" laptop screen for the browser. I'll save the dual monitor set up for when I purchase a Mac Pro next year some time. In the mean time I like the suggestion of going with a 27" or even a 30". Maybe I can manage a narrowed browser window and the timeline, viewer, and canvas on the same screen.
Thank you all for your suggestions. I've monitored the generations of the Avid-L for many years and found them to be of great value. It's nice to see the same from the FCP-L.

> Thanks for the input so far on this topic. What's happening is that my eyes are starting to go. I've been a full time editor since 82 and it's frustrating not being able to see clearly anymore. Now I'm bouncing between the 15" screen on my MBP for the browser and 20" screen for the timeline and viewer windows. I'm really straining to see the browser after looking at the 20"for awhile. What I really need is dual 24' monitors that I can run off my non mini display port MBP. I've gone freelance now and will eventually buy a tower but in the mean time I would like to use the MPB as the engine for this system. It is certainly powerful enough. I've been looking at Dell monitors because Zelin recommended them in a number of articles I've come across while researching monitors. Now Steve has recommended Samsung so I'll look into them. Either way, is it possible to run two monitors from my MPB without the mini display port? Someone recommended the Gefen adaptor as the solution to the mini display port issue but I don't see how that helps with running two monitors. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I also just started using FCP after twenty years of Avid so... I can't see anymore and now the steering wheel is on the other side of the car. I hope I don't crash.

The new Cinema Displays will not work with my MBP because there is no mini display port and no adaptor as yet. Anyway I have been looking at all sorts of solutions and the Dell seems to be the best in that price range. There is however a large collection of negative reviews all over the web regarding green/pink issues on some of the monitors that Dell has shipped out. Anybody with this monitor had to deal with this? My real question is, what are other people with similar set ups to mine using for an external monitor? While I'm at it I might as well ask if anybody is using two external monitors with the MPB? If so, how are you accomplishing that?
