[FCP-L] Re: Considering Canon XH-A1s. Any reviews? Used?

Doug -

We have 15 of the Canons at the school I teach classes at. While it makes a nice picture, HDV is still a pain format to deal with. I would much rather go to a file based acquisition model, but for student work, the tape based flow is best at this point. Our emphasis is on concept development and execution, rather than making our students DP's and editors...its a graduate advertising program.

The Canon is a pretty rugged and has enough ways to turn off the "auto" features, which I always have my students avoid. Note that the LCD monitor on the XHA-1 is nice but shows brighter than what is actually being recorded. You can put zebras on the monitor and set those to your liking, so at least you can tell where the whites are. You do have XLR's and a good BNC second output. All in all, a solid "pro-sumer" camera.

Hope that helps. Good luck.
