upper? NTSC SD is lower. HD is upper. PAL SD is upper.

FCP can handle either upper or lower no problem.
As a general rule if it's in a 'DV codec' sequence then make it lower
fields - otherwise stick with upper fields.
So as you have stated Apple ProRes 422 go with upper and if im wrong
ther's a filter in FCP to sort it out.
