learned that there are many programs available that can be run off of USB
flash drives, enabling one to take their favorite applications with them.
As a free-lancer, I find that many of my clients don't have the applications
available on their systems that I have become accustomed to using. It's not
a problem if I can download the application and install it myself (like my
browser of choice, Firefox), but at large companies with IT departments that
can be reluctant to install new applications, it can be.
So I now travel with a USB flash drive with a variety of programs on it. I
like to call it my "computer on a stick". These are, by and large, open
source programs that I carry like Firefox, Filezilla, GIMP, Inkscape, Open
Office, Celtx, NVU. The preferences are all saved on the stick so you are
leaving nothing behind on the host computer.
Is anyone else on the list taking advantage of this capability? If so, what
are your favorite apps?
