If they are students, surely you should be teaching them how to do both?
And how to make it work using Final Cut server and a compressor render
farm to make selects and have them selectively processed to both ProRes
Pxy and 422 ready for the offline/relink fandango...

One little trick I use is before I leave at night, I open any
sequences that need rendering, set auto render to 1 min, and walk
away. FCP will render every open sequence while I'm gone.
