Hi Mark,

I misspoke. I said compressing when really what I meant was scaling as
opposed to cropping the video. I do know what actual compression is. Of
course, for this project even media managing to 8 bit uncompressed would
reduce file size by about 25%. But I do believe that they would benefit from
even greater economie of disk usage.

As I mentioned, this is a new client with a new edit system. Going forward I
am going to have them change their workflow, however, I need to get better
performance out of this system without asking them to start replacing a
bunch of hardware that they purchased in ignorance. Also their project was
set up by somebody that clearly had little experience with FCP. It's
unfortunate but that's the case. Of course, were that not the case, I
suppose they wouldn't have been looking for a new editor.
