[FCP-L] Re: Slightly OT: shooting NTSC for PAL conversion

"You need to cut tony some slack here. He is a DS user so he is used to
doing everything the hard way...... :-P

Terence "couldn't resist" Curren"

Hey, I need no slack, Terry. I'm quite happy slugging it out all on my own
- you know that better than most ;-)
In my best PI impersonation: "These are just the facts folks, I'm just
telling you the facts."
I couldn't give a rat's wotsit whether you think it's good bad, indifferent,
stupid, pointless or whatever - it's still the case.
Oh, and Robin, as for "I know the BBC is also not that stupid". I did some
finishing for them last month. Guess what their first words were as they
sat down in the suite? "We need this defielded."
And. "Since no actual reason could be given for how and why this could ever
make sense, I'll have to make the only logical assumption..." well, if you
know ANYTHING at all about PAL, that assumption should be that people like
the look of progressive material. Remember this isn't NTSC land where
quality=film=ridiculous 3:2 judder. No-one in Europe understands why anyone
would ever want to watch jerky pictures, because they've not grown up with
it. So over here quality is subconsciously associated with film and hence
25P.
Also, most folk in Europe now watch TV on LCDs or Plasmas, at least in their
main room, and so are used to progressive images. So as I've already stated,
most new material is shot progressive and much of what isn't is defielded to
appear as if it was.
So, unlike everyone else who's chipped in here I'm not giving opinions,
simply stating facts.
Cheers,
Tone :)
