Yes, it is in fact so. Since really, how else? After Effects does the
same by the way, BUT it's editable! If you have it installed, look
into the top level of the folder and you'll see a "interpretation
rules.txt" file, which was introduced during my years on the beta-test
team, I believe for the 4.0. Everyone, including myself, saw the same
annoying behavior with 3rd party hardware which was popping up
everywhere (e.g. Radius, Targa etc.) which were interpreted
incorrectly, since AE simply didn't know the codec and had nothing to
go by and BOY could THAT mess up your day... if not WEEK. Now you can
simply edit the "interpretation rules.txt" file and add any given
format/codec to tell how AE should interpret it when it's encountered,
if he doesn't know about it already.

Of course with Motion-JPEG or the likes it could be ANYTHING, so
that's a tuffy and therefore you can't really blame Compressor. But it
would be nice to have the same option for the FCS apps, Compressor in
particular, yes.
