If a different user resolves the problem, then you have two options,
either of which will fix it.
1) Trash one user preference file at a time until you discover the one
that resolves the problem (way too time consuming)
or
2) Trash everything inside the entire user Preferences folder for your
user. Empty the trash, restart, and it should be fixed. Afterward,
you'll need to reset preferences for a number of apps, but that's a
small price to pay, isn't it?

P. S. I'd guess if you just trashed the QuickTime user preferences file,
you'd be good to go, but that is just a WAG.
