GOP...because you can do things like reverse telecine and shoot 720p60
and slow that down to 30fps or 24fps via Cinema tools or other
methods. GOP formats don't allow for this....they need to be
converted first. Plus they are 4:2:0 opposed to 4:2:2 so I, when I
color correct, can't push the colors as much as I'd like.
BUT... I'll give you that the EX cameras give you AMAZING images.
Simply amazing. And the tapeless media is far cheaper than P2... and
with adapters you can record to Compact Flash cards and actually
archive those as they are pretty inexpensive.
Then we have the AVCHD formats of the Panasonic HMC-70, HMC-150...and
now that Sony NX. MPEG-4 opposed to the HDV/XDCAM MPEG-2...but still
GOP.
I am just NOT a fan of the GOP format. I know the EX cameras shoot
better images, but being an editor, I dislike GOP, 4:2:0. But then
the images are great.
TORN!
When's that Scarlet coming out?
