Actually I just bought a new 8-core and it didn't cost even half of that even with software. I'm not counting KONA cards or external storage, of course. You can run FCS3 on an iMac or a laptop. You can even run it on lesser machines if you aren't too worried about Color or Motion. Apple is in a win-win either way. Undoubtedly 50% of new machine sales for both Avid-based systems and Adobe-based systems are going to be Macs. Bottom line is that Apple doesn't need to do anything with FCS in order to get new hardware sales.
