The new Sanyo HD Xacti (£350?) supports the Apple iFrame codec which is
reported to play nice in FC Express (and I hope) FCP.

I just bought one to test for a customer, so I will let you know if anyone
is interested.

Which you still need to convert before you edit. Sorry, but you'll
have to convert just about every tapeless format before editing.
Except for the new JVC, but that is both not cheap and not SD.
