challenge.
People here are ASSIGNED to handle our Social Media stuff.
Was a funny meeting when we assigned jobs: we had a "Mr Loquatious" who
never shut up - he got a Blog. "Mr Skinny Email" whose emails were so
short as to be incomprehensible - he got Twitter.
Me? I got the Facebook Fan page.
So each of us is required to spend time each day doing our chores. And
we have to report on it, too!
For other enterprises, we constantly hear of the "Battle for Talent"
where the challenge is to find, recruit and keep good people.
A few hours of net surfin' seems a small price to pay for happy workers.
Lots of businesses have jars of sweets, Staff BBQs, Friday drinks,
discounts, "free" phone calls, envelopes and pencils. THEY all cost
something.
Just re-align Staff Aims so they can better balance those few hours of
productive work with a few hours of net surfing, not forgetting, of
course, bouts of drunkenness, rage and lust.
Around here, people just kinda hang around after hours or on weekends,
they do work but they also congregate a bit. It's not a bad place to
hang out.
On the other hand, restrictive web policies might drive good people away.
But what would I know?
