Pretty much my solution too.

Never mind, Apple do seem to be gradually adding all the nice little
features that I like about Avid to FCP bit-by-bit (adding multiple
transitions, better locator/marker functionality, improved speed change
tools, timecode window are a few of the most recent ones), so I live ever in
hope.
